‘Cobra Kai’ actor Xolo Mariduena in negotiations to star in DC’s ‘Blue Beetle’

Washington [US], Aug 3 (ANI): Hollywood actor Xolo Mariduena, who starred in the “Karate Kid” spinoff series “Cobra Kai”, is currently in negotiations for the lead role in “Blue Beetle” for HBO Max and Warner Bros.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Angel Manuel Soto, who directed the Sundance 2020 coming-of-age drama “Charm City Kings,” was previously selected to direct DC’s first film centered on the Latin superhero.
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote “Miss Bala” and the upcoming “Scarface” reboot, wrote the script for “Blue Beetle”.

In ‘Cobra Kai’, Mariduena performed alongside Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Courtney Henggeler, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Martin Kove, Jacob Bertrand, Nichole Brown and Peyton List.
Several iterations of “Blue Beetle” have been around for years in the comics, with the film focusing on Jaime Reyes, a teenager from El Paso who uses alien armor granted by a strange artifact to defend his hometown. Reyes made his comic book debut in 2006 from creators Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner.
Warner Bros. ‘next big screen release will be “The Suicide Squad” by James Gunn, which is slated for release on August 6th.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Blue Beetle” aims to start production in early 2022. John Rickard is producing the film for HBO Max, with Zev Foreman producing it. (ANI)
