Full List of 2022 BET Awards Winners – The Hollywood Reporter

The stars of the 2022 BET Awards weren’t shy about addressing the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade at Sunday night’s ceremony.

The show opened with host Taraji P. Henson, presenter Janelle Monae and Best R&B/Pop Artist winner Jazmine Sullivan all criticizing the decision within the first 17 minutes of the show.

“Guns have more rights than a woman,” Henson said in her monologue. “It’s a sad day in America. A weapon that can take lives has more power than a woman who can give life, if she wishes.

Monae gave the middle finger and said, “Fuck off, Supreme Court” (the swear word was censored, but the gesture was not), while Sullivan called on men to support women in the fight for their rights.

Latto, winner of Best New Artist, later joined the critics against the Supreme Court.

Other winners included Marsai Martin with the YoungStars Award – during her speech she encouraged young people to use their voices to express themselves. The Weeknd (who was not in attendance) as Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Zendaya (also absent) won Best Actress for her work in both Euphoria and Spider-Man: No Coming Home.

BET Awards veteran Mary J. Blige, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award during the show three years ago, won the BET Her Award for Hello beauty. In her speech, Blige spoke about her career and all the accolades she’s won over the years, saying she doesn’t take anything for granted and isn’t ready to give up just yet. “This is just the beginning for me,” she said.

The awards, which recognize “creative expression and black excellence in music, television, film and sports, are presented during the 2022 BET Awards ceremony, broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Taraji P. Henson as host.

Additionally, Sean “Diddy” Combs received the Lifetime Achievement Award on the show, presented by Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Kanye “Ye” West. He also took the stage for a tribute performance featuring Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Nas, Lil’ Kim, Busta Rhymes, The Lox, Bryson Tiller, Faith Evans and The Maverick City Choir.

BET’s Connie Orlando oversaw the show, along with Jamal Noisette. Jesse Collins Entertainment is the production company with Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay serving as executive producers.
