John Cena opens up about WWE, “the Suicide Squad” and his commitment to make a wish

He stars in Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters, he’s admired by wrestling fans around the world and the guy even raps. Is there something Jean Cena can not do?

Having recently joined the Fast Furious franchisee in F9, Cena continues on his action-packed path playing Peacemaker in The suicide squad, arriving in theaters and airing exclusively on HBO Max this Friday. Cena credits the film’s writer and director James gunn for having initially intrigued him to take on the role.

“I’m a fan of him and his ability to tell stories, especially his ability to take less than the intellectual property (intellectual property) of the superheroes that are on the market and make you care about them. I think what he did with Guardians [of the Galaxy] was absolutely fantastic and I was really interested to see what he had in mind and then we started talking about The suicide squad, we immediately hooked. As for Cena alongside seasoned and award-winning Hollywood heavyweights like Viola Davis, Idris Elba and Margot Robbie, he saw this as a valuable learning opportunity for him- even, rather than a moment of intimidation.

“It was that old saying, if you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room,” Cena continues. “Well, I was the dumbest person in the room. The good thing about it is that I have to improve myself every day and I mean, take better and better leaps. Dude, I was so moved by the performances. So many moments that I shared with wonderful actors. Not only did I have a lot of fun and become a member of the DC Universe, but I improved as a professional.

Even with all of his back-to-back Hollywood projects lately, Cena has recently found time to shock WWE Fans when he showed up at Money in the Bank à la carte event on July 18 to announce his return to wrestling and the world stage that first made him known. So why did Cena choose to go back to his roots?

“I didn’t really want to leave in the first place, but I was faced with a bold choice and that bold choice is for you to try another way of entertaining people through movies and TV, but if you take this risk, then you can’t be on WWE at full capacity. Cena is set for the main event at SummerSlam 2021 takes place on August 21 live from Las Vegas, where he is set to face current WWE Universal Champion holder Roman Reigns. After SummerSlam, when asked if Cena envisioned a realistic future where he would be able to balance his demanding schedule in Hollywood with more WWE games, he said, “Dude, never say never by the way. from WWE. So how did this philanthropic twinning finally come about? “Make-A-Wish has a great relationship with WWE,” Cena reveals. “One day in an arena, I was grabbed by the hand and sent off to meet a family, which happens a lot in WWE. There’s a lot of backstage meetups and pre-show stuff. After the meet, I asked who it was and the rep said Make-A-Wish and I didn’t know what Make-A-Wish was. Then they explained the charity and the relationship to me. I said that I wanted to be as involved as possible in this, and the rest is history.

Make-A-Wish America is well aware of the inspiring difference Cena has made in helping them achieve their ongoing mission. Richard K.
