Study shows 70% of international audiences rate UK film and television as high quality – Commentary

A study commissioned by the UK Global Screen Fund of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport found that UK film and television are viewed as high quality by nearly three-quarters of the world’s audiences, positively influencing international opinions on the UK and attracting tourists. .(1)

The study found that nearly three-quarters (70%) of global audiences recognize ‘British’ as ​​a high-quality brand, with one-third (30%) of adults saying UK film and television influence their view of the Kingdom United, which is testament to the industry’s ability to showcase British talent with international success.

Research across 15 international territories has also shown the positive impact of UK film and TV series production. Two-thirds (66%) of people who have visited the country in the past said that seeing British places and landmarks in film or television influenced their decision, showing the huge indirect impact of UK screen sectors on other parts of the UK economy, including tourism and hospitality.
